The “Come To Jesus” Meeting,
artist panel and talk for Online Mnemosyne Atlas Lab, organized by Philipp Schwalb
With her artist-panel <The “Come to Jesus” Meeting>, Marta Riniker-Radich will examine, starting from the history of the American company Enron, narratives of financial speculation and expansion and the impact they have had not only on the corporate world, but on everyday life and on workers. The panel bases itself on her long-running research on Enron as a model for new business practices at the end of the 20th century, a forerunner of financialization and a poster child for corruption and white-collar crime. Marta Riniker-Radich’s panel serves as a field of experimentation to highlight the interrelations between financial practices, social and cultural phenomena and political regulation or lack thereof. It also raises the question of how research on business culture, financial flows and commodity speculation is translated into works of art. If we still have time and energy after the session, we could possibly look at panel 28/29 of the Mnemosyne-Atlas together.
